MAHNOMEN, Minn. - Shooting Star CasinoSM has the best poker comps, best poker tournaments, most comfortable poker room, most friendly employees, most knowledgeable and helpful employees, and the most friendly dealers among casinos in Minnesota, according to readers of Midwest Gaming & Travel, a leading regional gaming magazine.

The results of the magazine's annual Readers' Choice Awards, based on survey ballots sent to its readers in April, were published in its July issue. Shooting Star was also judged the top Minnesota casino in another category - favorite poker room. No other Minnesota-based casino was awarded with more service- and poker-related honors.

"The fact that we were voted the top Minnesota casino in as many as seven categories tells you that a casino located in a smaller market, away from the metro area, can still beat out the largest casinos in service- and facility-related areas," said Shooting Star Casino General Manager Elizabeth Foster-Anderson.

Explaining the results of the awards, Midwest Gaming & Travel said, "While certain category awards represent the work and commitment of casino management, others epitomize the dedication, responsibility and attention to detail by frontline personnel: the dealers, cashiers, casino hosts and slot attendants." Referring to casinos that excelled in the "people" categories, including Shooting Star, the magazine said, "While they may not have the largest or most extravagant casinos, they constantly strive to make sure that every patron who leaves their property, win or lose, has a smile on their face and a good memory of their visit. Yes, these casinos try harder, and it shows."

Midwest Gaming & Travel's Readers' Choice Awards focused on casinos in a four-state area: Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The magazine has a circulation of 50,000 readers.
