Shooting Star Scholarship 2017-2018

In an effort to support higher education within the White Earth Nation, Shooting Star has founded the Shooting Star Scholarship, to raise money for scholarships to be awarded to White Earth members and descendants seeking post-secondary education. Download an application form here.

A limited number of $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. To be eligible, each student must meet the following criteria:

Hosted by Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center, proceeds from the tournament benefitted the Shooting Star Scholarship Fund, which supports higher education in the White Earth Nation

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (June 6, 2014) – More than $28,500 was raised at the 3rd Annual Shooting Star Scholarship Golf Tournament, which took place on June 6, 2014, at the Mahnomen Country Club in Mahnomen, Minnesota. All tournament proceeds benefitted the Shooting Star Scholarship Fund, which was established in 2012 and annually provides scholarships for students in the White Earth Nation for post-secondary education.

 

Nearly $16,000 in prize giveaways were presented to winners of various hole contests, on-course contests, and overall team contests, including golfer with the longest drive, the longest putt, closest to the pin, landing his or her ball on the green off the tee box, driving a whiffle ball for distance, and more.

 

The tournament included 36 three-person teams, 18 holes, and prizes offered for the top-finishing teams in each division. Gold Sponsors of the tournament were Visions, Inc., ROI Solutions and Buffalo Nickel Creative; Bronze Sponsors of the tournament were J&M Printing and Konami Gaming, Inc.; and Par 3 Sponsors of the tournament were Cadillac Jack and Micro Gaming Technologies, Inc. (MGT). Food donations were provided by Sysco and the cocktail tasting was provided by Johnson Brothers Liquor Company.

 

Golfers also had the chance to meet-and-golf with professional athletes including former Minnesota Vikings players Rickey Young and Ted Brown, as well as former Minnesota Twins pitcher, Juan Berenguer. A dinner and awards ceremony was held after the tournament at Shooting Star Casino, Hotel, and Event Center. 

 

Overall tournament winners include:

·         2nd place – Newman Signs, Inc.

·         Longest Putt Tedd Klein

 

On-course contest winners include:

·         Hole #5:  "Win a Year's Supply of Coke" Hole Contest Diane Spaeth of Ihry Insurance Agency

·         Hole #6: “Land your Ball in the Circle” and win a 50” Toshiba TV John Woolery of Sysco

·         Hole #8: “Get a Hole in One” and win $35,000 toward the purchase of a new vehicle, courtesy of Nereson Automotive no winner.

 

Shooting Star Scholarship beneficiaries also received a certificate of recognition at the golf awards banquet in addition to their $1,000 scholarship fund.
