Their sound has best been described as “Funky Country”\, as they try to bring a soulful\, upbeat approach to all the music they play\, regardless of genre\, the result of which is folks who say they “don’t like country”\, or “never listen to rock\,” find themselves tapping to the beat\, or kickin’ it up on the dance floor before they realize the song being played is the “Type They Don’t Like!” \nWhen it comes to their original music\, there is only one rule that is applied! The song must have strong lyrics\, which the guys feel is often lacking in much of modern music today. With many songwriting idols as their motivation\, they aim to craft songs that are relatable\, and have an overall sense of purpose. \nThe band has opened for artists such as Jake Owen\, Billy Currington\, Rodney Atkins\, Phil Vassar\, Joe Nichols\, Diamond Rio\, Little Texas\, Chris Cagle\, SheDaisy\, Collective Soul\, Colt Ford\, LOCASH\, and Trick Pony and many\, many others! \nA staple of music festivals\, since the band’s inception\, the band has performed at Wefest seven times\, as well as multiple appearances at festivals such as Ribfest (Fargo\, ND) \, CountryFest (Cadott\, WI)\, Moondance Country Festival (Walker\, MN) and Kick n’ Up Country (Karlstad\, MN). \n

He grew up surrounded by music and was always in attendance at his parents shows as they have a band of their own. He started playing instruments at a young age and grew up performing on the stage at Jasper’s Theater in Park Rapids\, MN\, his family-owned theater. There is where he found his love for the guitar\, the fiddle\, singing and just sharing his gift of music and his ability to make people laugh with everyone who walked through the doors. \nHe joined the Johnny Holm band at the age of 19 and enjoyed traveling all across the upper Midwest performing at various bars\, fairs\, and events. When he turned 21\, he made the big move to Nashville. He spent over three years in the music scene in Nashville performing endless hours on Broadway and creating music of his own in his free time. He truly has a gift for song writing.

Although new in name\, the members of the group are no strangers to the dancehalls\, honky-tonks and beer joints that line the highways across the United States. Having worked together musically since 2005\, founding members Romyn Hanks (guitar/vocals) and Rick Schroeder (steel guitar/vocals) enlisted the help of two close friends and former band mates\, Rick Runde (bass guitar/vocals) and Kory Werlinger (drums/vocals) to form Troubadour. In July of 2011 after Kory’s retirement from the group\, the powerhouse drumming and percussion skills of Jesse Schmidt (drums/percussion/vocals) were added to ring in a new\, and exciting era for the band. \nWith an extensive touring schedule since 2010\, Troubadour has since played America’s Premiere Country Music Festival; “We Fest”\, and have shared the stage with many national acts throughout the region.
