Although new in name\, the members of the group are no strangers to the dancehalls\, honky-tonks and beer joints that line the highways across the United States. Having worked together musically since 2005\, founding members Romyn Hanks (guitar/vocals) and Rick Schroeder (steel guitar/vocals) enlisted the help of two close friends and former band mates\, Rick Runde (bass guitar/vocals) and Kory Werlinger (drums/vocals) to form Troubadour. In July of 2011 after Kory’s retirement from the group\, the powerhouse drumming and percussion skills of Jesse Schmidt (drums/percussion/vocals) were added to ring in a new\, and exciting era for the band. \nWith an extensive touring schedule since 2010\, Troubadour has since played America’s Premiere Country Music Festival; “We Fest”\, and have shared the stage with many national acts throughout the region.

Their sound has best been described as “Funky Country”\, as they try to bring a soulful\, upbeat approach to all the music they play\, regardless of genre\, the result of which is folks who say they “don’t like country”\, or “never listen to rock\,” find themselves tapping to the beat\, or kickin’ it up on the dance floor before they realize the song being played is the “Type They Don’t Like!” \nWhen it comes to their original music\, there is only one rule that is applied! The song must have strong lyrics\, which the guys feel is often lacking in much of modern music today. He was singing in church as far back as he can remember. At age 11\, his parents bought him a drum set\, and he began playing at church services and with friends at social functions. Soon after that\, his older brothers started teaching him guitar and there was no turning back… \nIn addition to Gospel\, Phil was exposed to many other music genres. From his dad\, he picked up on legendary country artists such as Hank Williams\, Johnny Cash\, Bill Monroe\, The Statler Brother’s\, and many others. His brothers\, eight and ten years his senior\, listened to Elvis Presley\, The Beatles\, Merle Haggard\, Hank Williams\, Jr.\, Billy Joel\, and Phil picked up something from them all. His mother & sister\, both accomplished classical musicians\, also exposed Phil to an array of popular artists of current and past eras. \nBy the time Phil was in high school\, he began performing at local and regional clubs as well as charities and benefits. He became a well-established\, in demand\, respected musician and vocalist. Fresh out of high school\, he and the band hit the road and never looked back. \nBy 2003\, Phil was so busy that he had bought a home in Hendersonville\, Tennessee. He is known all over the country and abroad\, playing over 200 shows a year at major venues here and overseas. Phil has played the stage at the Wildhorse Saloon more than ANY other artist in the history of the venue!

He started playing instruments at a young age and grew up performing on the stage at Jasper’s Theater in Park Rapids\, MN\, his family-owned theater. There is where he found his love for the guitar\, the fiddle\, singing and just sharing his gift of music and his ability to make people laugh with everyone who walked through the doors. \nHe joined the Johnny Holm band at the age of 19 and enjoyed traveling all across the upper Midwest performing at various bars\, fairs\, and events. When he turned 21\, he made the big move to Nashville. He spent over three years in the music scene in Nashville performing endless hours on Broadway and creating music of his own in his free time. He truly has a gift for song writing.
